Hello,
We%26#39;re a couple in our twenties planning a 3 week trip in May this year and just wondering if vaccinations are needed/recommended?
We will be travelling from HCMC to Hanoi, including mekong delta, halong bay %26amp; sapa. We%26#39;re not doing anything too risky, or doing it rough either. Just a little bit of trekking in sapa and the rest is general sight-seeing.
So do we need vaccinations or not? What do people think?
Vaccinations - necessary or not?
You really should consult your doctor on this, but we decided to get Hepatitis vaccinations (can be passed through contaminated seafood). We weren%26#39;t too worried about anything else except malaria in the south, which we took doxycillin for as presecribed by our doctor.
Vaccinations - necessary or not?
we are travelling in July with two young children. We%26#39;re going to get hepatitis and Typhoid vaccinations. Still considering Malaria as we may be doing the North west loop trip.
The best thing to do is talk to your usual doctor. I had typhoid, yellow fever %26amp; hepatitis jabs before coming here, but really unless you%26#39;re heading right out into the depths of the Mekong Delta you%26#39;re highly unlikely to catch anything nasty. Prudent use of mosquito repellent %26amp; nets is advised, but that%26#39;s all you need.
I would not think it is necessary. I have been to many places in Viet nam also to Sapa, Bac ha,Can Tho ,Chau Doc in Mekong delta and I found it was safe though and you might just need some repellent.

If you have insurance, then why would you not get vaccinated? Here is a link to the CDC and their recommendations for travel to Vientam:

I guess you have to ask yourself if not getting a few shots would be worth the risk of contracting Hepatitis or Typhoid.
