Hanoi to Hue Imperial City - possible in 1 day?

Is it possible to do a day trip to Hue Imperial City from our base in Hanoi?

I have been researching on the internet and have come across FootprintVietnam site which has a 1 day tour to Hue Imperial City (9.30am to 5.30pm). The site appears to contradict itself when you read further on as it says it is a 3 day trip. ???

Hanoi to Hue Imperial City - possible in 1 day?

It%26#39;s about an hour and ten minutes%26#39; flight from Hanoi to Hue, or most of a day on the train. So, theoretically you could take a 7.10am fight from Ha Noi to Hue, arrive about 8.20am, tootle around Hue for the day, then fly back to Ha Noi at 8.40pm and arrive at 9.50pm. But it%26#39;s about an hour by car to and from the airport in Ha Noi so it becomes a very long day (and there%26#39;s no return flight between lunchtime and the 8.40pm flight so that%26#39;s your only option).

How does the Footprints tour get you to and from Hue? I%26#39;m betting it%26#39;s the train.

Not really a day trip but if you could stretch it to two days, down one morning back the following evening, you would get a good overview of Hue.

As YorkFoodie explains, A day trip from Hanoi to Hue Imperial City is quite impossible. I have just taken a look at Footprintsvietnam and found their '; Hue Imperial City Tour 1 day '; is designed for tourists who are already in Hue.

Ewok, Hue is an interesting city with old citadel, romantic Perfume river and Nguyen Kings%26#39; tombs. So if you have enough time, add Hue in your favourite list
