Can anyone give us some up to date info on where to get perscription glasses and how long does it take?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers Vicki
perscription glasses
Are you going to be in HCMC? I have had glasses made up in a matter of hours. There are opticians all over the place but the easiest ones to track down are those in the streets surrounding Ben Thanh market. There%26#39;s an Eye Hut there and a load of other smaller operations all offering a good range of frames.
If you%26#39;re in the backpackers area head down De Tham with your back to Pham Ngu Lau, across the intersection is an optician called Ocean Optics where I%26#39;ve also had glasses made up. I admit to being a bit biased on this one because they gave me free branded rain poncho last time I was there but their selection of frames is good.
The opticians will carry out an eyesight test or bring your own prescription, most can also provide tinted or photochromatic lenses but the choices of extra thin lenses is pretty limited and not up to quality available in say Singapore. Multi vision lenses can be had too if you need them.
I%26#39;ve had several pairs of glasses made and have been happy with the price, speed and workmanship.

Just to add to the above, I%26#39;ve never paid more than 1,000,000 for glasses and often much less than that.
Hi wannakeeptravelling,
We are following right behind you, would appreciate an update if possible on the perscription glasses when you get them.
This is the only MUST HAVE on the shopping list.
Freckl48,
Hey no problem will let you know where we finally get them etc.
Is there anywhere in Hoi An? We are there for 6 nights and will probably have more time there.
Thanks again!!
Cheers
Vicki
Hi Wannakeeptravelling,
Obviously being in the central of NAM you are either heading north or south. Good advise below for Saigon and if you head to Hanoi their are some reputable ones on Hang Gai St and alot of small shops on Long Van Can st all in the %26#39;old quarter%26#39; (main shopping area of hanoi) where they sell heaps of frames etc and do just as good a job as the opticians and you can bargain with them so cheaper!Allow a day for the street shops and 2 days for the opticians :O)
Good Luck
Tif
Thanks Tiff geckocafe.
Much appreciated we have 2 nights in Hanoi so will look at where you have suggested.
What about hoi An?
Cheers
Vicki
Their are a couple in Danang, however I recommend you wait until Hanoi as you will get better quality...Enjoy your travels
hhhhmmmmmm can see me coming home with several pair
some from HCMC and some from Hanoi.
A pair to match each outfit.LOL
Easily done, at the last count I had eight pairs. You wouldn%26#39;t wear the same clothes or shoes each day so why wear the same glasses?
Ha Ha - I like your thinking!!!
