Hue-Danang-HoiAn

After seeing Hanoi, HaLong and Sapa, I will fly to Hue from Hanoi in November and am trying to get together a rough itinerary. This gives me only have 4 days to try and see Hue-Danang-HoiAn before flying south to explore HCMC. Is this too ambitious?

I was thinking of either taking the train or driving between Hue and Danang then driving to HoiAn and back again to Danang to fly to HCMC. Is it possible to go straight from Hue to HoiAn and then to Danang or is it a good idea to see Danang enroute?

What are your thoughts?

Thank you, any advise is much appreciated!

Hue-Danang-HoiAn

Haven%26#39;t got my maps handy to check if there%26#39;s an alternative route, but the standard journey Hoi An- Hue passes through Da Nang.

Overnight in Hoian

We were recently in Hue and Hoi An, and had considered stopping in Danang, but didn%26#39;t have enough time so we skipped it. We did pass through during the bus ride from Hue to Hoi An, and were very happy with our decision not to stop there - it seems to be a very uninteresting and not particularly attractive town! I would suggest skipping it and spending more time in Hue/Hoi An.

Hi Butterry

I agree with Teenab79 - We organised a car from our hotel (Asia Hotel) in Hue to drive us down to HoiAn - a bit of a luxury at $70US but it was easy and convenient. The driver took us via a beach resort where he had a %26#39;smoko%26#39;! and we had a bathroom stop and then we drove thru Danang to Hoi An via the Marble Mountains which turned out to be souvenir shops selling everything made from marble but there was no pressure to buy - looking is free!! We drove over the Hai Van scenic pass which featured on Top Gear Vietnam show (we are a little behind in Australia so only just saw it last week - what a hoot!) great views then down to Hoi An via China Beach. I wouldn;t bother with Danang - it is really just a commercial business hub rather than a tourist hangout. Spend your time in Hue and Hoi An as both are incredible and a wonderful break from the hurly burly of Saigon and Hanoi. Allow at least 3 hours to wander around the citidel and take plenty to drink - it gets mighty hot in there although after this last month in melbourne - I could easily handle that heat again!!! I wish you a wonderful holiday - enjoy the people, places, food and great beers.

Hey Yorkie how was your vietnam trip last year - I saw your posts checkin stuff out about the same time I was. We had three wonderful weeks travelling north to south and had a ball - loved the food and thought the beer was great - although I only ever drink the stuff in asia

Buttery I forgot to mention - we actually stayed in Hoi An then got transfers back to Danang airport (40mins?) so you can see both in 4 days if you push it.

We had such a great time we%26#39;re going back for nearly a month at the end of March! Less than three weeks to go!

Thanks everyone for the replies :)

Happydaze, I think I am going to do what you did. Staying in Hue for a full day to see everything then I am paying $70 for a driver between Hue and Hoi An taking the Hai Van pass and stopping at a beach and the marble mountains. I have also asked to stop in Danang to maybe check out the Cham musuem and some pagodas there and Han market if it is on. Then onto Hoi An where I will stay a couple nights.

Mind if I ask who you used to book the driver? I am going with Vietland Discovery.

YorkFoodie, all your posts on here are so helpful-thank you!

Aw, shucks. Thank you!

Hi Butterry

We booked a car thru our hotel in Hue - Asia Hotel. If you are staying in Hue just go thru the tour desk in your hotel - their should be fairly reliable and safe as they probably use the same car and drivers regularly. Other wise a reputable tour company should be able to help. Good luck and enjoy.

Yorkfoodie you lucky thing - looks like it is just work work work for me this year - we usually head over to Bangkok at the very least for a few weeks but even this looks off the cards. Have a great time.

Agree fully ,skip Danang.

Cua Dai hotel in Hoi An is a good pick and good value for money.

When it comes to eating I found a very nice little family restaurant.

The name is Than Phong or something similar.Walk down to the bridge (close to the japaneese bridge)cross over to the other side and walk appr. 200 meters left. The restaurant has red lanterns in front.

But be in time it gets very crowded.

A 5 dish dinner inclusive of one bottle of wine (Dalat very drinkable) 220000 vdn (appr. 13 USD) for two !!!!
