2 nights too much

Planning a trip to Vietnam in June. Currently looking at doing a 2 night 3 day junk trip to Halong Bay. Is this too much. Is it possible to experience the Bay by doing a 1 night trip instead of 2. Also looking at the same for the Mekong Delta. How many days needed to properly experience the Delta.

2 nights too much

I think you will find that the second night of the Ha Long Bay trip the accommodation will be in a hotel on Cat Ba island. We didn%26#39;t feel the need to stay on the island and were perfectly happy with our 2d/1n tour staying on the junk.

Mekong Delta is a vast area. How long is a piece of string? How long you spend there depends on how many places/towns you want to visit. My personal thought is that you should spend at least one night in Can Tho and maybe even longer (we had 2 nights) or another night in another town.

2 nights too much

Well you can do a 2 night/ 3 day trip (i did a 1 night/1 day trip and this felt pretty rushed). Halong Bay is beautiful and there is lots of caving and kayaking to do but if your not into that stuff i would suggest getting to Halong bay early mouring and leaving late afternoon the next day. Me personally i liked the Mekong Delta better overall because the people get nicer the further you go south. What would help too is how many days you will be in Vietnam, if you are in Vietnam over 2 weeks i would stay in Halong Bay for 2 nights. My favorite towns are probably Hoi An (a little tourist town but still has a great old city integreated into it) and HCMC (Ho chi Minh City, in the south they call it Saigon).

That depends on how much time do you have for your holiday. Halong bay is very very nice place worth to see in your plan.

You can choose trip for :

+ 2days 1night ( overnight on Junk)

+ 3days 2nights (2nights on Junk or 1night on boat, 1night in hotel on Cat Ba island)

That will bring you to different places to enjoy your time in Halong bay.

In Halong bay you should choose the good Junk because it is the most important thing to make the beautiful time for your trip.

With Mekong delta trips: in my opinion if you do not visit cambodia after mekong trip, you should do for 2days 1night ( Overnight in hotel in Can Tho)

We are planning around 2 1/2 weeks in Vietnam and currently looking at Hanoi and Halong Bay, Danang to just relax on the beach for a couple of days and HCMC. We are spending more time in HCMC and from what you are saying, looks like we should plan more time in the Mekong Delta. We are also travelling with two young boys (6 and 8) so maybe 2 days of kayaking is not ideal. Hoi An sounds like an option as well. Thanks for the help.

I think 2 days 1 night for Ha long Bay is enough. If you have enought time should visit Mai Chau and Hue, they are 2 of my favorite places.Mekong delta is beautiful too if you don%26#39;t have much time then 1 night in Mekong will be fine.

Don%26#39;t worry for the kids. Kayak is optional, you can join or just stay on the junk and relax on the junk. If they join kayaking they will be provided light jacket.

In the north don%26#39;t forget to visit Sapa if you have 2 and 1/2 week for your holiday.

Hoi An ancience town is very nice. especially in the night of 15th lunar month, they will turn off all leon light and use lantern light only. No motobike only walking and bike cycle. You should spend here at least 2 nights.

You can get to Hoi an by airplane from Hanoi - Danang, by night train ( to Danang) or by Sleeping bus( direct to Hoi An).

Mekong for 2days is a good ideal.

Yes, Just a one over night on a Junk is enough to experiance Halong Bay. Same with the mekong Delta tour. One over night with car/driver with guide will allow you to experiance the Mekong Delta area. Then spend the other precious days in other areas in Vietnam.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed. It sure makes planning a trip so much easier. When you are trying to see as much of a country as you can in a short time it definitely helps to get ideas on the number of nights to stay in a particular place and not to waste unnecessary time, rather move on to another spot. Cannot wait till we get to Vietnam. Have been wanting to do this trip for ages.

We are going to spend 2 1/2 weeks in Vietnam in Sept/oct. We%26#39;re wondering whether to have 1 or 2 nights in Halong Bay. Which junk did you go on? There seems to be so many. Did you book it from Hanoi or before you left home?

2 and 1/2 week is not much but enought to visit all of the most famous tourist destinations. Your trip is valuable or not most depend on the tour operator%26#39;s experience.

Halong bay for 2days 1night is enought for your budget time. You should read reviews of cruise before making decision, that also depends on your budget. The luxury one is always first choise like : Indochina sail, Valentise, Emeraude cruise, Emotion, Bhaya,...etc.

You can book when you arrival in Hanoi. But it is better to reserved before.
