I want to plan a trip to Vietnam on my own next year - about 01/2010. I am a pretty confident international traveler, but this would be my first time in Asia. I am a HUGE nature lover... while I want to see the beauty of the temples and the markets and the people, I would probably choose to spend much of my time finding those rare and distant places uncrowded and magical. PLEASE -- fill me in on your experiences!
Vietnam for the single female
Hi,
You said you are a huge nature lover so you should visit Sapa, Mai Chau, North west Vietnam or Central Highland where are mountainous areas, home to ethnic people. Mekong Delta is also reccommended. If you are beach lover you should visit Nha Trang, Phan Thiet and Phu Quoc.
Cheers

hi
Heading back for third time in May. Doing a 6 day private tour of Central Highlands from Buon Ma Thout to Danang - will do a report when we get back - we too are looking forward to getting off the tourist route, but also can%26#39;t wait to re-visit Hanoi and Hoi An ( for about a week each) just to enjoy the experience - love watching the passing parade.
I%26#39;m in VN (Hanoi) at the moment and will also be visiting the Central Highlands and places in the north that are off the beaten track. I intend to do trip reports along the way and hope they will be helpful.
looking forward to the posts about the North %26amp; Central Highlands after your trip! Sounds like that%26#39;s where I should focus to get off the tourist trail. Thanks for those tips, makes it easier for me to narrow in on my research.
Thank you VietIndoTravel! As far as beaches go, are these three that you recommended very crowded/touristy? I imagine it%26#39;s tough to find the hidden gems when it comes to beaches, but that%26#39;s what I%26#39;m hoping to do. Nha Trang seems to be the favorite - but that tells me it may be wall to wall westerners?
If you go to DaNang and take a taxi to HoiAn you will go past China Beach. Across the street from that beach is a St Mary statue and there is also a great resturant near by. I could show you pictures of the beach but I cannot upload them to this thread. the water is not all that cool during January and I have been to this beach many time and have never seen more than 10 people over the spand of a mile. A couple of times I have swam there in my underwear that is how un-crowed it is.
oh, that is the stuff I am looking for - thank you, thank you!
