Is Nha Trang dangerous and dirty?

I read a review on tripadvisor from somebody who had had their hotel room broken into. They went on to say that Nha Trang is experiencing a crime wave, that it is full of drug pushers and there are hypodermic needles on the street (the review was dated Jan 09). In other reviews i%26#39;ve read that the beach is dirty and full of excrement.

Please can anyone help and give me their opinion on these comments? I was thinking of coming to Nha Trang in three weeks time.

I was there in Dec. and had a great time. Not much for the beach in Vn but there were plenty who were on it. No crime to speak of that I saw or heard about. Always use common sense.

Words like ';crimewave'; are relative. Sure, by VN standards, Nha Trang is a little edgy. But if you%26#39;re from the UK or US, you have nothing to fear.

The beach isn%26#39;t the cleanest in Vietnam so stay at one of the hotels that have private beach areas if you can.

I%26#39;ve been there 3-4 times, never been offered drugs %26amp; never seen needles on the street. Not a big fan of the place but not for those reasons.

Most beachs in Vn ar not that clean so if you are looking for a beach holiday then Vn is not the place to go.

Saw no evidence of crime or drugs when I was in Nha Trang, and to be honest the streets of Melbourne or London can be dangerous depending on what part you are in.

Does not really matter where you go these days you need to exercise caution and not doing anything silly.

Enjoy Vietnam for it%26#39;s culture, history. food and wonderful people and you can%26#39;t go wrong.

I have been to Nha Trang now 1/2 dozen times in the 6 years. Always stay at least a week while there. Go to the beaches everyday ect. Only once did I see a floating log. But not the paper and trash that I am reading about here. It really does have the trpical color waters and islands close by to visit. There is so much more do do there. But it is getting busy with new hotels popping up all over and loosing its virginity look.
