Well, I%26#39;m a travel consultant but it does%26#39;t mean i%26#39;m not a traveler. Share my thoughs on these:

Galaxy: 7 mins walking distance to the central lake and good service as they are running biz quite a long time. Highlights of this hotel is a huge lobby window that view to the vibrant street side activities.

De Syloia is good, boutique and elegant, location is not bad, quiet area of old French colonial. Most of their clients now are businessmen since their target customers are corporates. Low possibility to get your reservation.

Elegance hotel: This chain of boutique hotels are getting good reviews recently and they locate right in Old quarter.

NO idea about Splendid Star and the Hoang Thanh Plaza but Green mango and Ritz is kinda same sorts of Elegance with a little less fame.

HIlton Opera and Sofitel are dead-center and great location with professional service but my not be as warm hospitable as the Elegance chain.

Okie, if you expect world-class service, go for the 5* mentioned above.

If you are abit budget, go for the Elegance chain and if you can afford a little more. Hanoi Maison Hanova is a great choice. Only 1 minute to the lake and has been in operation for a few months.

Rates for those can be a little less than what post#1 said if you are a good bargainer.

Cheers.

I stayed at the Ritz Hotel in December. The location is great, right across Hoan Kiem Lake. The price is great. The Sofitel and Hilton are the nicest hotel you have in your list, its also very expensive. Depends on your budget. Another good budget hotel you don%26#39;t have on your list is Indochina 2.

If you want a good hotel, low price, great location I would stay at the Ritz or Indochina 2.

kprunella, thanks I%26#39;ll look into Indochina 2. Can you tell me how the rooms were at the Ritz?

Hi grumby24

Cheers

There is no elevator at the Ritz so you will have to hike your luggage up the stairs. The rooms and bathroom are clean. The hotel staff is very polite. The only complaint I heard from people is that some of the Rooms are a little Dark, not much lighting. The rooms do have windows, so I doesn%26#39;t feel like a cave like most 2 - 3 star hotels. The free internet access was nice, but most 3 star hotels have that.

We stayed in Elegance 2 and 3 in Feb and both were fantastic. Best thing about them( as well as cleanliness, location ) is the staff. They cant seem to do enough for you. Both in Old Quarter (most interesting) , walking distance to centre, loads of restaurants and shops around, also an ancient house right next door to Elegance 2. Make sure you walk the streets as oppossed to taxies, you discover so much more.

I stayed at the Ritz a year ago; very helpful staff and spotless bathrooms. There%26#39;s a min-market nearby for food and basic needs.

I have just booked Hotel Elegance 4 and we go in 2 weeks obvioulsy can%26#39;t comment on the hotel but what I can say is that they have been incredibly helpful so far with our trip planning. So far my impressions have been very positive.
