Thanks for your help Jason

We are planing to fly to Nha Trang when we get back to Saigon, and was going to book pacific. Now I can see we will need to go Vietnam Air on the later flight.

Very helpful.

Cheers

Hi Jooolia

Did you take the ThanhNhan speedboat between Saigon and Can Tho. If so, can you tell me whether it is rough travelling all the way. I get sea sick. Also are there toilets on board and where is the best place to sit for a good view.

Thanks for your help.

Gaby

Hi

We did take the boat. It wasn%26#39;t very rough, but about an hour into the trip the boat broke down. We had to wait in a small village for a few hours. We were quite the novelty there! We were then put on a bus for the rest of the journey. One of the old old ones with no air con and falling apart seats. All up took around 9 hours or so.... Was a bit of an adventure I supose, but not exactly what we had planned for!

There is a toilet on the boat, and maybe sitting outside on the small rear deck would be the best view and the most comfortable. Seats were quite tight, but it was fun interacting with the kids on board.

Good luck!

My trip on the express also broke down somewhere between Chau Doc and Can Tho, but we got to Can Tho in record time anyway on a Mercedes mini-bus (and our fare was totally refunded!) The jet boat is great fun, there%26#39;s no sea sickness problem since it only goes on the river (the reason it almost goes into Chau Doc). Even with the problems (minor) they treated us so well, we had such fun, that I%26#39;d repeat the trip in a flash! Many things break down in Viet (I also had a taxi break down outside of Hoi An) - be prepared for the extra treat!

Where does it leave from in Saigon?

The ferry dock in Saigon (on the Saigon River) is just east of the center of town. I just walked down the main street from the Pham Ngu Lao, past the Ben Thanh Mkt and continued to the river, and there were the ferries at a dock next to a small park.

see one of the maps at:

OK, just back from Can Tho.

The express boat was really wonderful - fast, clean and on-time, with fabulous views the whole way - everyone should try it out!

Tickets are now 230,000 one way. I just rocked up before the times (see Jason%26#39;s entry) and bought my ticket.

At the moment the boat leaves from the pier in front of the Tran Hung Dao statue, right near Renaissance Riverside.

Hi everyone,

How big is the ferry, how many people does it take?

Would we have any problems just turning up to buy tickets? 3 of us traveling in late may?
