Emeraude cruise

Please share your experience on the Emeraude

Upper deck cabin vs lower deck cabin to avoid any motion sickness?

Still researching....

Many thanks

Emeraude cruise

Did contact the Emeraude Classic Cruises to check availability for deluxe cabins in September 2007, this is the response I got:

“ Please be advised that at the moment we do not have any Deluxe cabin available (on the upper deck), but we will advise you if there is any cabins released on that day.”

The transfer Hanoi - Halong- Hanoi is an additional $120USD for 4 to 10 persons

I research other travel websites that offer the Emeraude cruise and contacted them by email and some by telephone to confirm there is availability on both deluxe and superior cabins for the same travel dates. The cabin rates are same as Emeraude.

The transfer is included.

The inconsistency and uncertainty of not having the deluxe cabin make me wonder about booking directly with Emeraude.

Is it too premature to book with directly? We only need 2 deluxe cabins for now.

The Emeraude Classic Cruise booking form also request a copy of the credit card (front and back) as well as copy of passport...

Many thanks

---Very true!

I think there is only one Emeraude ship that sails daily. Our group already voted if going to do 2 days/1 night tour Halong bay.

Many thanks.

Just got back 2 weeks ago from Emeraude. I would go with upper level cabin- but more for view. You will spend very, very little time in the cabin. Between the activities and food we spent only 7 hours in our cabin total. I would not think about motion sickness at all(!) HaLong is a very smooth, protected body of water that is glassy smooth. You can also upgrade once on board if accomodations dont meet needs. There were ten open cabins on our Feb 13 cruise.

One big tip is to make sure, depending on where you are coming from, to let Emeraude arrange for transportation for you direct from your hotel. Arranging this for yourself is a nightmare.

We booked on line and faxed our credit card details and everything went smooth as silk. This is not just another cruise, Emeraude is restored to 5 star cruising luxury- the food, the help, and the entire experience is first class.

I know that when booking a cruise- each agency gets an allotment of cabins to on-sell- maybe this is what has happened in this case which would explain why you are able to book with one agent but not direct .... I don%26#39;t know-

why don%26#39;t you look for an agent you can trust and book with them? especially if the agent will do the booking for you without you having to pay first.

It sounds like an amazing experience that you wouldn%26#39;t want to miss.

Thank y%26#39;all for the replies!

Just back this week from Emeraude trip. Met some people who were told there were no other vacancies - there were - and they took a suite - not necessary.

All was excellent. Our hotel travel agent said emeraude expected you to have a driver take you down. Arranged for us to go with Ginger people - they finished 12.00 and we finished 9.30 am and had to wait 3 hrs to be picked up.

All over Vietnam hotels, cruises etc seem to have %26#39;agreements and contracts%26#39;. I find this creates confusion and problems and makes people give up trying and is a big tourist problem. these sort of contracts exist with all agent for selling rooms, but seem worse to me in V/Nam and I think the prices direct can be hugely different and more expensive.

They also all want pre-payment. I refused and told the hotel to put in on hold or I would try when I got there and if I missed out - too bad. They were good and had it waiting for me but I believe really tried to helkp by putting us on the the others.

Emeraude had a cooking class (spring rolls) and a caves trip and the meals were excellent - I confidently ate salds and had ice. All the food was good, and we had really good company. Mixed ages 30 to 60 . The people we met on the Ginger - Tropical Sails were mixed 20-45. I agree with the prices differences and transport difficulties. We chose Emeraude because it would be more stable - doesnt make any difference - Halong Bay was misty and very calm.

Sorry, other people we traavlled with were on Dragon Pearl not ginger

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences on the Emeraude!

We booked the deluxe cabins on upper deck and look forward to cruise Halong Bay in September.
