While in theory you could do a day trip to Sa Pa, it%26#39;s kind of odd IMO to travel all night on a train there and then back just to spend one day somewhere.

yea but I%26#39;m there for a work trip and only have limited time to venture around the Sapa area.
I would highly recommend Ocean Tours for their Halong Bay trip. It was excellent! I took the option to stay on their private island, which was wonderful. In January they also had a promotion that included a free night stay in their new hotel in Hanoi with the purchase of a tour. If they still have this deal, it%26#39;s well worth it.
