Did you know Van Long – no-wave bay ?

Covering an area of 2,643 hectares in seven communes of Gia Vien district, in the northern province of Ninh Binh, Van Long nature reserve is a wonderful landscape with a rich ecological system.





Van Long is the largest swampland nature reserve in the northern delta. In Van Long forest, there are 457 species of plants, eight of which are listed in Vietnam鈥檚 Red Book, namely kieng, lat hoa, cot toai boi, sang, bach bo, ma tien hoa tan and tue la rong.





There are 39 species of animals, including 12 rare species such as languor, Tibetan bear, chamois, Loris, and red-face monkey. Van Long is home to the largest community of langurs (around 50 heads) in Vietnam.





The reserve also has 62 species of birds, 26 species of reptiles, including nine listed in Vietnam鈥檚 Red Book such as grass-snake, varan, slow and harmless boas, and gecko, six species of amphibians, 44 species of fish, and 39 species of aquatic plants.





It is not only famous for its nature reserve; there are many cultural sites in the area. Standing on the dike, tourists view large areas of water. Imposing mountains can be seen in the far distance.





Tourists who want to discover Van Long should go by boat to view scenery of mountains of Nghien, Hom Sach, Da Ban, Meo Cao, Co Tien, Voi Dung, Canh Cong and Moi Coi. Each mountain has an attractive legend.





There are 32 beautiful caves in the reserve, including Fish, Shade, Tortoise and Lemon caves. The most beautiful cave is the Fish cave at the foot of Hoang Quyen Mount. Many species of fish live in the cave.



Van Long nature reserve is really a site worth seeing.
