It has been indicated that $AU like $US are accepted throughout Vietnam.
Crisp and clean is the criteria I believe.
(a) Are transactions done in $AU ?
(b) What $AU notes are more acceptable ?
(c) Would it be more advisable to convert my $AU to Dong
Like we have $5 - $10 - $20 - $50 - $100 all diffent colors.
Thanking you

Dear mimasaloi
AUD is also accepted in HCMC but it has different exchange rates depending where you go. If you go to the bank, they will give you less VND than at the jewelry store
Moreover, AUD is changed daily but USD is nearly fixed at the bank 17.48x VND but at the Jewelry store 17.6xx VND or 17.7XX
My advise is you will bring AUD to VN and go to Jewelry store to exchange into VND and pay for your bill
at the moment : 1 AUD = 11.157 VND at the bank but at the jewelry store you can get 11.2xx or 11.3xx VND
Best regards

PS : please bring big note 50 AUD or 100 AUD for more VND

A few places will accept AUD over the counter but in the main you need to exchange it for VND in Viet Nam. As Jason has indicated, you can exchange it in banks or jewellers stores (they usually have a big signboard out the front indicating excahnge rates). Jewellers stores often give a better rate but you have to closely watch the money being counted. Because there are a lot of zeros in VND it is easy to confuse a 10,000VND note for a 100,000VND note, a 50,000 for a 500,000 etc. It%26#39;s odd- I really can%26#39;t recall if the notes were different colours, I think they were but subtly, so the confusion exists.
Good evening all,
Please click here for the colors of Vietnam Currency ( VND )

50.000 VND = 2.8 USD
20.000 VND = 1.15 USD
10.000 VND = 0.57 USD
5.000 VND = 0.29 USD

To be easy, let%26#39;s forget the last 000
Like 500.000 VND ===%26gt; 500
Thanks for that, Jason! See, the 10,000 and the 100,000 are similar colours, especially if you look at them in a hurry, so be careful!
I took USD a small amout of dong just to get me through and Australian dollars to change nearer the end of our trip we found a jewellery store near the Ben Thau Market the best rate anywhere we travelled it is next door the the Pho 2000 noodle restarurant at 7 Phan Chu Trinh one thing though I got a better rate with USD if they were in big denominations no less than $100 bill
