Gifted with 10 /11 days of travel in Viet Nam

First Trip.....and want to know if it is nec. and best to book with a tour company (which one??) or to try to travel by the seat of our pants? Most importantly, what are the top places to see/ things to do!!! Would love some suggestions. We actually would like to spend a good deal of our time in the countryside or along rivers etc. as opposed to big cities. Welcoming any input!!!!!!

From HCMC book a tour going to the Mekong Delta and exiting in P. Penh. There are 2 day and 3 day tours. sinhcafevn.com would give you an idea of such a tour and what it it cost which is dirt cheap!

Stay one day in PP. See Killing Fields first early am after which go to the Genocide Museum. Take lunch, Proceed to Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda.

The next day take Sapako Bus to Siem Reap at 8:00am and Reach Siem Reap at around 1pm. Check into your hotel and see the town/market. At 4;30pm ride a tuktuk and buy a 3 day temple ticket. One ticket is $20.00; while a 3 day pass $40.00. After buying the ticket , you can enter the tenple for free after 5pm. for a sunset view.3 days of climbing the temple would cover most of the temples.

Stay one more day if you want to see the floating village.

There is a direct bus from Siem Reap to HCMC.

In HCMC, take a tour to the Cucchi Tunnel and a city tour all in one day. The resr of the sites in HCMC can be done by yourself without taking a tour.

This can be done is 11 days bit adding a few more days if you can would make it more worthwhile.

Hi.

With 10/11 days and your preferences I would be looking at concentrating on the North. A couple of days in Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue and Hoi An would give you a good introduction to Vietnam.

Have a look at a good guide book to get a feel for where you would like to go and read the reviews etc on TA.

Vietnam is a very easy place to do it yourself. Just about everything can be arranged on-line, internal travel is cheap and easy.

When you have worked out the basics for your trip you can then start asking specific questions or search previous threads here as most questions have been asked and answered.

whatever you decide I am sure you will love it.
