Nguyen Khang Hotel HCMC

Anyone stayed at this hotel, any comments would be appreciated. A$30 a night for double, is that the going rate in Pham Ngu Lao Street? Going in April/May.

Nguyen Khang Hotel HCMC

Have a look at the listing for it on hostelbookers.com. There are many many good reviews. The only area it gets below 90% rating is ';fun'; - to be expect since it%26#39;s not a hostel or a backpackers but more hotel like.

I think I will be staying there the first week of March. I can try to post my feedback ad well if that%26#39;s helpful. (you may want to remind me in March.)

Is it a new hotel. Clean etc good location. Im thinking of staying at the Saigon mini hotel. Would this be a better option. Is breakfast included?

Thanks Tom

Tommomelbourne,

According to the hotelwebsite, it was established in 2005.

Also, I read a review somewhere that this hotel has no elevators if that is a concern to you?

Maybe email the hotel to make sure.

Thanks Jason for your detailed info. With only 1 double room with window I wonder if you know of other hotels at similiar prices. Sue

Dear Sue,

There are many other good hostels close by the Nguyen Khang Hotel in that small, quieter alley such as Bich Duyen, Blue River and Ngoc Linh.. They have similar prices as Nguyen Khang and the same scale of mini-hotel. Some are classified as 1-star hotel officially by local authority. They all just have few rooms with front windows, the others with inside window and some without windows. You can clearify all upon booking confirmation. Most of them don%26#39;t include breakfast in their cheap room rates but when you are in-house, you can ask them to arrange breakfast for you. Cost is up to US$ 2.- per person, mainly served with either bread + fried egg, jam, chesse .. or a bowl of fresh rice vermicelli (localy named Pho, Bun ..), and cup of tea, and some might with banana. They are actually located in the backpackers area so you will easily find many other things you might need (tours, restaurants, shops. etc). One more thing is you can book airport transfer with these hostels. For me, Nguyen Khang has room more beautiful than others but the diferrence is just minor.

Nice trip!

Thank you for your reply. Do you know what time you can check in to hotel and what time is checkout?

Check-in time is 02:00pm and check-out time is 12:00 nootime. Early check-in and/or late check-out are subject to hotel availability and may be at extra cost.

Hi Sue,

I%26#39;m currently staying at the Nguyen Khang, and I think it%26#39;s great value. We booked a double room for $20 per night, (so you may be able to negotiate down the $30 quote) but when we arrived found out that there is only one double room with window, which is right by reception. I%26#39;m a light sleeper, so we opted to take a twin room with window ($22) on a high floor and push the beds together, which is a much better option. The hotel is fairly new, very clean, and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Best of all, absolutely no hassle to take a tour, book tickets, etc. Just honest helpful advice if you ask for it.

If you want a lift or absolutely need a double bed in a quiet room with a window, then there%26#39;s likely better options, but otherwise, I think this hotel is great value. I particularly like the location -- on the doorstep of both Pham Ngu Lao and Bui Vien but down a quiet (but very safe) alley which eliminates virtually all the noise. There are several small hotels down this alley, I think it%26#39;s the %26#39;new%26#39; mini hotel alley. ;)

(FYI - I also looked at the Saigon Mini Hotel but they quoted a much higher $37/night for double with window and we simply cannot justify the price difference.)

If you have any further questions, please send me a PM as I don%26#39;t check the forums.
